Spinal disc damage often is the cause of chronic back pain. Unfortunately, the exact issue is not always apparent. Discs can be damaged due to trauma, health issues, lifestyle and other factors, causing discomfort but not a defined disc injury. Discogenic pain is a generalized term to refer to neck or back pain caused by damaged spinal discs, often resulting in chronic pain for the patient. Our clinics at Medici Orthopaedics & Spine offer cutting-edge treatments for discogenic pain, helping to improve the quality of life for patients.
There are many different conditions that affect the spinal discs. Herniated discs, bulging discs and degenerative disc disease are all common conditions that cause pain and mobility issues. With discogenic pain, the disc damage does not fit into one of these conditions, yet the disc is causing pain. Discogenic pain is often diagnosed by a process of elimination of other conditions that could be causing similar symptoms. It can be a result of an accident or injury to the back, neck or spine, causing damage to the disc from impact or strain.
Since there is no specific damage to the intervertebral disc, surgery is usually not an option for discogenic pain. Conservative and non-invasive treatments are usually the best options for reducing and managing acute or chronic discogenic pain. At Medici Orthopaedics & Spine, we offer a multidisciplinary approach to treating all types of back and neck pain. We will create a personalized treatment plan to reduce inflammation, relieve nerve pressure and help other issues that cause discogenic pain. Physical therapy, steroid injections and additional treatments can be used separately or in conjunction to offer relief.
If you have acute or chronic back or neck pain that has been difficult to diagnose, you may be suffering from discogenic pain. Contact one of our clinics to schedule a consultation with one of our knowledgeable pain doctors to explore treatment options.
